A New Play in Liverpool...
Things are moving ahead on plans to produce my new play Sunday Afternoon Again as part of the Write Now Drama Festival in Liverpool in March/April. I have now linked up with talented director Martha Simon, who has already cut her teeth directing for Manchester's 24/7 Festival. And also on board is equally talented Kathryn Docherty as assistant director. Last week we held a cast-and-crew call at the Parr Street Studios in Liverpool and this week Martha and Kathryn hope to audition several of the actors who introduced themselves. The play is the tragicomic story of a Yorkshire childhood.

...and a New Play in Leeds
And we are also seeing progress on plans to produce my play Luvvies in October. We have held the first batch of auditions at the Alea Casino in Leeds. Luvvies will be one half of a double bill shared with Facing Up, a drama by my fellow writer Helen Shay. Director is Marian Mantovani, a Yorkshire woman who has spent recent years directing drama in the US.  Warwick St John, who won Best Actor award at the Wakefield Drama Festival in my play The Bronte Boy will star in Luvvies. It is a visceral tale about the clash of two generations of "theatrical" couples, with writers and actors in emotional conflict. More news on this as we get closer to the date.

Talking Head
I will be running a creative writing session for Wakefield Council at Drury Lane Library  between 10am and 12 noon on Saturday March 3. Theme is Be a Bronte! and I will be describing how I adapted the story of Branwell for my play The Bronte Boy and challenging people to turn their own experiences into writing. It's free so and it should be fun. So look out for it!
